June 30, 2007 ArtVisions fine art licensing - What is art licensing?
Quite simply stated: art licensing is the agreement between two parties, the user of the art (”licensee”) and the artist (”licensor”), sometimes with the help of a middle-man (”agent”) to utilize your artwork (a “property”) on a specific product for a designated time and territory. In return for the grant to use the art (”License Grant”), a fee (sometimes a “Royalty” - sometimes a “Flat-Fee”) is paid to the licensor for the use of the art on the product.
Art licensing includes painted images, illustrations and photography–all of which can be reproduced successfully on almost any product.
